Our History
Sunnyside Farms Market is Durango’s local craft butcher, bistro, deli and specialty grocery store. Founded by owner Holly Zink in 2002, Sunnyside is committed to providing the highest quality foods that are sourced with animal welfare, good health and sustainability in mind.
We are pleased to offer a premium selection of locally raised and all-natural meats, wild seafood, free-range poultry, local produce, dairy and more. Our specialty grocery items include standard staples, as well as hard to find and gourmet products. We also feature a wide array of house-crafted dishes from our deli and bistro, including chef prepared grab and go foods for fast and delicious meals. We’re committed to providing foods that you can feel good about serving ~ fresh from the farm and the ocean to your table.
Our butcher case is stocked with pasture-raised meats that are grown by local and regional ranchers, as well as carefully vetted farms from other areas. We build relationships with our suppliers that are rooted in the shared values of humane animal treatment and sustainable growing techniques. In addition, we feature a premium selection of quality seafood from Seattle Fish Co., an environmentally conscientious company based out of Denver who prioritizes responsible fishing and aquaculture. Our products also include free-range, all-natural poultry, sourced from the most reputable brands who are committed to the highest standards and practices.
Our ancestors came to Durango and La Plata County as farmers and ranchers in the late 1890’s, growing alfalfa / grass hay and vegetables, and raising cattle and sheep. Two of our homestead ranches are recognized as Colorado Centennial Farms, having been owned and worked by our family for over 100 years. This multi-generational heritage has instilled us with our values and deep commitment toward land stewardship and preserving open space through agriculture. Sunnyside Farms, where our sister business, Sunnyside Meats, is located, earned an organic certification in 2004. Sunnyside Meats serves the local ranching community and supplies premium quality meats to Sunnyside Farms Market and restaurants in Durango. As proud supporters of local farming and ranching, we value the cultivation of future farmers and western traditions by supporting 4-H, FFA and other educational programs for our community’s youth.
